Our FAQs provide you with a quick overview of important topics related to our product range. If you have any further questions, we will of course also be happy to assist you personally.
ChemPUR offers metallic iron in numerous physical forms, allowing the material to be precisely tailored to various applications in laboratories, research, and development. For powder-based experiments, nanopowders with an average particle diameter of 60–80 nm, fine powders with grain sizes under 250 micrometers, and carbonyl powders with particle sizes under 10 micrometers are available.
If a defined grain size or better dispensability is required, iron powders in various mesh fractions, electrolytic flakes, granules, pellets, or pieces in different dimensions are suitable. For technical setups and materials science investigations, the range also includes foils, wires, rods, and tubes.
In thin-film technology, iron sputtering targets are used when precise layers with defined material properties are to be produced. The most suitable form depends on factors such as particle size, geometry, surface, and further processing. We would be happy to advise you on selecting the appropriate iron form for your application.
Is iron delivered worldwide?
We supply our iron products to research institutions, universities, industrial laboratories, and development departments in numerous countries worldwide. In doing so, we consider the applicable transport and customs regulations for shipping, especially regarding the specific properties of individual products such as iron nanopowder, which, as partially passivated black powder, is subject to special handling instructions.
For deliveries to non-EU countries, we prepare the necessary export documents upon request and guide you through the customs process. Depending on the destination country and product category, individual delivery conditions may apply, which we will transparently inform you about in advance. For large quantities or regular deliveries, we also offer individual terms. Contact us for a customized shipping quote – we support you in smooth procurement.
In which purities is iron available?
We offer iron across a broad spectrum of purities, ranging from 99+% to 99.99+%, thus covering even the most demanding analytical and materials science requirements. For example, our iron carbonyl powder is available with a purity of 99.5%, while selected pieces and granules are available in purities of 99.97% or 99.99%.
The high-purity iron powder with 99.99+% is particularly suitable for applications where trace impurities could affect results. Additionally, electrolytic iron flakes with 99.9% purity are available, which ensure a uniform composition due to their defined manufacturing process. Depending on your application’s requirements, we would be happy to help you select the appropriate purity level – please contact us.
For which applications is iron used?
Pure iron is primarily used in research and development where defined metallic properties, magnetic behavior, or controlled reactivity are required. In materials science, it serves as a starting material for alloy development and as a reference material for metallurgical investigations.
In catalysis and surface research, iron is particularly interesting when high reactivity or a large active surface area is needed. It also plays an important role in the development of magnetic materials, for example, in studies on ferromagnetic properties or magnetic functional materials.
Further areas of application include electrochemistry, corrosion research, and thin-film technology. There, iron is used, among other things, to investigate material behavior under defined process conditions or to produce functional iron layers. In biomedical research, high-purity iron can also serve as a starting material for iron-based or iron oxide-containing particle systems. The suitable quality for your application depends on factors such as purity, surface, reactivity, and the desired processing method. We would be happy to assist you in selecting the appropriate iron product.
Which iron compounds are available?
In addition to metallic iron, ChemPUR offers a wide selection of iron compounds that can be chosen based on chemical function, oxidation state, and reactivity. For oxidic systems, various iron oxides are available, which are used in catalysis, pigment research, and materials science, among other areas.
For inorganic syntheses and wet chemical processes, iron halides, iron nitrates, and iron sulfates are suitable. They are often used when iron is needed in a soluble, reactive, or easily processable form. Iron borides, iron sulfides, and iron silicides expand the range for applications where defined binary iron compounds are required.
In the field of coordination and precursor chemistry, the offerings include iron pentanedionates, oxalates, and alkoxides. These classes of compounds are particularly relevant when iron is to be specifically incorporated into syntheses, coating processes, or material chemical precursors. The suitable iron compound for your application primarily depends on the compound class, purity, solubility, and reactivity. We would be happy to assist you in selecting the appropriate compound for your synthesis, analysis, or material development.
Why is ChemPUR the right partner for iron?
Anyone procuring iron for research, development, or technical applications usually needs more than just a single standard product. The appropriate purity, suitable form, correct compound class, and reliable documentation are crucial. This is precisely where ChemPUR comes in.
As an experienced fine chemical dealer for research supplies, ChemPUR offers a particularly broad and deep iron product range. It includes metallic iron in various forms and purities, as well as numerous iron compounds – from oxides, sulfides, and halides to specialized precursors. With over 196 listed iron products, research institutions, laboratory managers, and development departments receive a versatile one-stop source.
This simplifies procurement, shortens coordination paths, and ensures consistent product quality across different orders. We also personally support you with special quantities, project-specific requirements, or the selection of suitable specifications. Please feel free to contact us – together we will find the right solution for your iron needs.
How is the quality of iron ensured?
The quality assurance of our iron products begins with the careful selection of manufacturers and suppliers who must meet defined quality standards. Each product is offered with specified purity data, substantiated by analytical evidence. For example, for our iron nanopowder with 99.9% purity, information on particle size, specific surface area, and morphology is provided.
In addition, we emphasize proper storage and packaging to minimize oxidation and moisture ingress – because pure iron reacts sensitively with oxygen in humid air. For demanding applications where batch traceability and test certificates are required, we are available for individual arrangements. We will gladly provide you with available analysis certificates upon request and advise you on the quality requirements of your application.
