How does high-purity indium differ from other materials?
High-purity indium is a chemical element and a silvery, lustrous metal with characteristic physical properties. Compared to standard materials or technically produced metals, high-purity indium is primarily characterised by particularly low impurities and precisely controlled material parameters. For research, analytics, thin-film technology and modern laboratory technology, defined purities are crucial, as even the smallest traces of foreign substances can influence electrical, thermal or optical effects.
ChemPUR offers indium products in purities from 99.9% to 99.9999%. The respective purity is specified product-specifically and supports reproducible conditions in scientific and industrial processes. High-purity indium is used particularly in materials research, semiconductor technology or vacuum technology to enable stable process conditions and reliable characterisation of materials. By reducing interfering accompanying substances, measurement results and material properties can be assessed more precisely.
A further advantage is the material’s good malleability. Indium has a comparatively low melting point and can therefore be processed and further worked well. In which forms does ChemPur sell indium?
We offer indium as a pure metal as well as in selected indium compounds and alloys for chemistry, research, development and industrial applications. We supply elemental indium under CAS number 7440-74-6. You can obtain it from us in many delivery forms: as powder, shot or granules, pieces, ingots, wires, rods, sputter targets and indium foil.
We offer particularly versatile options for foils and wires. Indium foil is available in thicknesses from 0.05 mm to 2 mm. We supply indium wires in various diameters, including from 0.25 mm to 3.0 mm. Depending on the product, purities up to 99.9999% are specified. We will clarify the appropriate quantity, packaging and possible delivery times as part of your sales enquiries.
For coatings and PVD processes, we supply indium sputter targets in various thicknesses, diameters and purities. We also offer evaporation materials for applications in thin-film technology, materials research and laboratory technology.
In addition, our range includes indium compounds such as indium oxide, indium hydroxide, indium phosphide, indium selenide, indium telluride, indium(III) chloride, indium(III) bromide, indium(III) iodide, indium(III) nitrate hydrate, as well as indium tin oxide, also known as ITO. What applications does high-purity indium have?
High-purity indium is used in numerous research, development and industrial applications – especially wherever defined material properties, high purities and reproducible processes are required. For many research institutions, universities, development departments and high-tech applications, indium is therefore an important material within modern materials and thin-film technologies:
PVD and vacuum technology: High-purity indium is particularly relevant for applications in thin-film technology, semiconductor technology, materials research as well as in analytical and chemical processes. In PVD and vacuum technology, indium is often used as an evaporation material or sputter target, for example to produce functional layers for research, electronics or optical applications. Especially in coating processes, high purities play an important role, as even the smallest impurities can influence electrical, optical or thermal properties.
Indium tin oxide (ITO): Indium tin oxide is used for transparent conductive layers, for example in research applications involving displays, sensor technology, optoelectronic systems or modern electronic components. Electronics and power electronics: High-purity indium is also used in electronics and power electronics. Which indium form is suitable for my laboratory?
Which indium form is suitable for your laboratory depends primarily on your process, the desired material properties and the respective field of use. We support research institutions, development departments and industrial users in selecting the appropriate form with regard to purity, dimensions, processing and general material requirements.
For chemical syntheses, analytical applications or material investigations, indium powders, granules or shot, or pieces are often used. These forms are suitable, among other things, for laboratory processes in which materials are dosed, processed or further investigated. Indium oxide and nanopowders are also used in research, materials science and the dynamic development of new materials.
Indium foils, targets & special alloys
In thin-film technology and coatings, high-purity foils, evaporation materials or sputter targets are preferred instead. Indium foils are suitable, for example, for thermal contacting, vacuum applications or special research setups. Wires and rods are often used when a soft and easily deformable metal is required, for example in electronic applications or special manufacturing processes.
We also offer indium-containing alloys for applications at low temperatures or for fusible systems. Some of these materials can become liquid comparatively early under certain conditions. This can be of interest, for example, for assembly, contacting or research applications.
