What Distinguishes Carbon from Other Elements?

Carbon forms stable covalent bonds not only with a wide variety of other elements, but also with itself – in long chains, rings and complex three-dimensional structures. This property, termed catenation, explains why the number of known carbon compounds exceeds that of all other elements combined. At the same time, carbon exists in several elemental modifications that differ fundamentally in their properties: graphite is electrically conductive and soft, graphene possesses an exceptionally high specific surface area and mechanical strength, while activated carbon acts as an adsorbent through its porosity. This structural diversity makes carbon one of the most widely used elements in research and industry. For advice on the appropriate modification, we are available to assist you directly.

Is Carbon from ChemPUR Delivered Worldwide?

Reliable material procurement begins with a supplier that combines international logistics and a robust distributor network. Carbon products from our range – whether graphite powder, graphene nanopowder, activated carbon or graphite foils – are shipped worldwide. Through our global distributor network, we are able to procure specifications that go beyond the standard programme. The same quality standards apply to every delivery, secured by our ISO 9001:2015 certification. Special requirements regarding packaging, documentation or quantities can be clarified directly with our specialists, who process your enquiry without detours. Contact us to discuss delivery conditions and availability for your desired carbon specification.

Why Is ChemPUR the Right Contact for Carbon?

Whether for synthesis, analytics or materials development – carbon in its various modifications places specific demands on procurement, quality assurance and consultation, which ChemPUR meets as an experienced company. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified supplier, we ensure consistent product quality and traceable processes. Our range includes graphite, graphene and activated carbon in a variety of forms and specifications, and materials that are not part of the standard range can be procured through our worldwide distributor network.

Custom fabrications – for example regarding dimensions, particle sizes or packaging quantities – can be realized upon request. As a family-owned company with flat structures, our specialists provide direct consultation without the detour through a call centre, enabling short response times and technically sound communication. Contact us – we answer your questions about carbon products competently and without detours.

Which Carbon Compounds Are Available from ChemPUR?

We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and supply carbon not only as a pure substance, but also in the form of technically relevant modifications and material classes. Our range includes graphite in various powder fractions and as foil, graphene as nanopowder with defined layer thicknesses and specific surface areas, as well as activated carbon in powder and granulate form.

These products cover different chemical and physical profiles: while graphite exhibits an ordered layered structure, graphene with its single-layer or few-layer structure offers special electronic and mechanical properties. Activated carbon, on the other hand, is characterized by its high porosity and adsorption capacity. Carbon compounds in the narrower chemical sense – such as carbides or organic carbon compounds – can be obtained upon request through our procurement network. Please contact us regarding specific material requirements.

For Which Applications Is Carbon Used?

Carbon is available in several physical forms, each serving different application fields. Graphite is used in electrochemistry, high-temperature processes, and as a lubricant and crucible material due to its thermal stability and electrical conductivity. Graphene nanopowder with specific surface areas of up to 1,000 m²/g is used in materials research, in the development of composites and in energy storage technology.

Graphite foils serve as sealing materials and thermal conductors in technical assemblies. Activated carbon is used in water treatment, gas purification, and in chromatographic and analytical processes. Evaporation materials made from carbon are employed in thin-film technology and coating processes. The application spectrum is therefore extraordinarily broad and ranges from basic research to industrial manufacturing. Our team is available to provide product-specific consultation.

Which Carbon Forms Does ChemPUR Offer?

Carbon is not the same as carbon: depending on structure and delivery form, surface area, conductivity, adsorption capacity and mechanical properties change significantly. Therefore, ChemPUR offers various carbon forms that can be specifically adapted to different applications in research, development and industry.

When high surface area or adsorption performance is required, activated carbon is suitable – available as fine powder < 100 µm or as granulate with 2.5 mm. For applications where conductivity, temperature resistance or dimensionally stable components are paramount, graphite products are relevant. These include graphite powder, graphite foils, plates and rods in various dimensions.

For materials science questions involving particularly fine structures, graphite nanopowder and graphene nanopowder are also available. These forms are of interest when particle size, specific surface area or platelet-like structures play an important role. Thus, depending on the application, you can choose between adsorptive, conductive, dimensionally stable or nanoscale carbon forms. Our specialist team will be pleased to support you in selecting the appropriate product form.

In Which Purities Is Carbon Available from ChemPUR?

ChemPUR offers carbon products in different purity grades. Graphite powder is available, for example, in qualities from 99+% to 99.9+%. For high-purity graphite, very low ash contents are additionally documented, such as < 300 ppm or, for certain graphite rods, even < 10 ppm or < 5 ppm ash.

Graphite nanopowder achieves a purity of 99.9%. Graphene nanopowder is available with 98+% or 99.5%, depending on specification. Activated carbon is offered as powder and granulate; here, the adsorptive properties and the respective product form are primarily emphasized. For selection purposes, in addition to percentage purity, the ash content is also relevant, as mineral residues can influence certain analytical, material or high-temperature applications. Our specialist team will be pleased to support you in selecting the appropriate carbon quality.
