At ChemPUR, chromium is available in several purity grades, enabling different requirements in research, development and technical applications to be covered. The range extends from grades starting at 99+% through 99.9%, 99.95% and 99.98% up to high-purity variants with 99.99% and 99.998%.
For applications with particularly stringent requirements, for example, chromium pieces with 99.998% as well as powders, foils and sputtering targets in grades up to 99.99% are available. Low-oxygen chromium granules with 99.98% complement the range for processes in which oxygen content plays an important role. Which chromium forms does ChemPUR offer?
ChemPUR offers chromium in various physical forms so that the material can be precisely matched to different process requirements. For powder-based applications, chromium powders are available in several particle sizes, including fractions below 160 µm, below 500 µm, as well as defined mesh grades.
If you require a coarser or more easily dosed form, chromium granules, electrolytic pieces or pieces in various dimensions are suitable. For applications with defined geometry, the range also includes chromium foils in 0.5 mm and 1 mm thickness as well as chromium rods with different diameters. For thin-film technology, chromium sputtering targets are available in various thicknesses and diameters. This allows the appropriate form to be selected specifically depending on particle size, geometry, surface and downstream processing.
Which chromium compounds are available?
In addition to elemental chromium, ChemPUR offers various chromium compounds for chemical, materials-science and technical applications. These include, among others, chromium borides, chromium carbides, chromium nitrides and chromium silicides.
For wet-chemical applications and synthesis processes, chromium halides such as chromium chlorides and chromium fluorides, as well as chromium nitrates, are available. Chromium(III) oxide is available in various grades, including as a nanopowder with an average particle size of 60 nm. For precursor and coordination chemistry, the range includes chromium(III) 2,4-pentanedionate. What applications is chromium used for?

In thin-film technology, chromium sputtering targets are used to deposit thin chromium layers onto substrates. Which product form is best suited depends on the specific application—such as purity, particle size, geometry or compound class.
Does ChemPUR offer chromium nanopowder?
Yes, ChemPUR offers chromium nanopowder with an average particle size of 50 nm. The powder is coated with oleic acid and has a purity of 99.5%. It is described as a grey to black, approximately spherical powder.
In addition, chromium(III) oxide is available as a nanopowder with an average particle size of 60 nm. This variant is suitable for applications where oxidic chromium materials with a fine particle structure are required. Nanopowders are often chosen when a high specific surface area, fine dispersion or particular reactivity is the focus. In addition to particle size, surface area, morphology, purity and stabilisation are also relevant for selection.

Does ChemPUR offer low-oxygen chromium?
Yes, ChemPUR offers low-oxygen chromium for applications in which the oxygen content of the material plays an important role. Available, for example, are chromium granules in the 0.5–2 mm fraction with a purity of 99.98% and a maximum oxygen content of 300 ppm. Such grades are particularly relevant for processes in which oxidic impurities should be kept as low as possible.
These include, for example, metallurgical investigations, reactive syntheses, high-temperature processes or applications where a controlled material composition is required. Whether low-oxygen chromium is suitable for your application depends on the process conditions, the desired purity and the permissible oxygen limit.
